Business description

I chose to work at Chama Valley Meat Co, a company that produces and distributes beef and yak meat. on this ranch, I worked checking fence, building a power shed, and working closely with the animals. I chose to work here because the land is beautiful, and it seemed like a great oportunity to do my internship there.

Anticipation and preparation blog

Blog entry #1 10.10.2020

At this particular point in time, I am most interested in doing an internship with Nature and Oceans of the Americas, which is a conservation group that researches sea turtles in Costa Rica. I'm feeling quite excited about it, and I feel very prepared and ahead of the 8 - ball. At this point, my next steps are exploring other options or booking that internship, as the deadline is the end of this month (October).

Blog entry #2 02.10.2020

I did my internship with Nature and Oceans of the Americas. This business is one that focuses on their environmental impact and does a lot of studies on marine life. The branch that I joined does a lot with sea turtles, be it research or habitat protection. This company also has a focus on the education of youth in Costa Rica. I chose to do my internship with this this company because I am interested in environmental conservation and biology and research with some of nature's most interesting creatures.

Heading 4 #3 06.16.2020

So COVID-19 happened. I clearly could not go to Costa Rica, so I had to find something else. I looked for a couple of months, trying to find something that was interesting to me, and finally, my current boss said that I could help him do some promotional work his ranch, which I currently work on. I'm excited about this internship because I will be able to do something that I am interested in and do it with minimal extra steps to confirm the internship since I already work there. I am very grateful to Robert, for agreeing to be my mentor, and I am looking forward to completing my LINK project.

Reflection
09.01.2020

Over the course of this internship, I learned a lot about myself, collaboration, and work ethic. working on the ranch, I learned the value of hard work, because, no matter how hot the days were, or how hard the work, we always kept going, to meet our deadlines. In the professional world, I learned through the products that I came up with, the value of creating work because you value the product, not to check another box and move on. I was challenged to learn completely new skills in order to get jobs done on the ranch, as I had never worked on a ranch, or in construction. I discovered that I have strength in continuing to work despite overwhelmingly difficult situations. I learned to perservere. My LINK internship taught me the importance of collaboration and clear communication in the workplace. Moving forward, my next steps are to use what I learned about writing during my intersnship to write great essays for college, and complete all of my applications.

My project

During this internship, I worked on constructing a power shed for my LINK mentor below are a couple of pictures of the process.
